On 4 April 2025, in the context of the multidisciplinary week "Environmental Awareness Week - Become a Zerowaster", 40 students made an educational visit to the factory of COCO-MAT in Xanthi.
The action was implemented in the framework of the programme ZeroWaste and aimed to enhance the environmental awareness of students, through the introduction to a model company for the green and circular economy.
The students had the opportunity to get to know the the philosophy and principles of sustainable production of COCO-MAT, to attend manual work required for the construction of mattresses and to see for themselves the natural materials (such as coir, natural rubber and wool) used in production.
The tour included a presentation of the the history and development of the company, which consistently promotes the ecological and socially responsible entrepreneurship. The students actively participated, asked questions, and expressed great interest in how a business can combine the innovation with respect for the environment.
COCO-MAT proved once again that the principles of sustainability and ecological awareness are not just theory, but can be put into practice, while offering professional opportunities in the green economy sector.
Such experiences provide students with the stimulus and motivation to envision and claim a more responsible professional future, based on values and respect for people and the environment.
