"Eco Week 25: Visit of EPAL students to Sunlight Group's Recycling Factory - An experiential experience of circular economy"

On 9 April 2025, in the context of the multidisciplinary week "Environmental Awareness Week - Become a Zerowaster", forty students from Komotini participated in a special educational visit to the Sunlight Group Recycling Plant / Recycling Plant, one of the most modern and innovative battery management and recycling units in Greece.

The visit was a unique opportunity for the students to come into direct contact with the world of circular economy and the sustainable production and recycling practices. The Sunlight Group team presented to the students, through a detailed presentation, the whole battery recycling process, highlighting the technologies applied and the necessity of sustainable management of raw materials.

During the tour, the students visited the premises of the plant and observed the stages of the processing of used batteries, understanding the role of technology and innovation in reducing the environmental footprint.

The action had a special educational character, as the students were informed about the career prospects in the green economy sector, thus enhancing their environmental awareness and linking education to the labour market. Η contact with modern industry practices increased the interest of many students in future careers related to sustainability, recycling and energy efficiency.

Sunlight Group honored the presence of the students with souvenirs, giving another positive tone to their experience and sending a strong message of responsibility and open knowledge.

Η educating young people on sustainability and green jobs is a key pillar of the programme zEROwASTERS - Innovative actions with citizens, implemented with the funding of the Green Fund. Through such actions, the participation of young people in the shaping of a Zero Waste future with respect for the environment and future generations.
