In the framework of the project "zEROwASTERS - Innovative actions with citizens", implemented with funding from the Green Fund, and in the context of the Eco Week 2025, the Eco Active Joint Venture, in cooperation with the 2o EPAL Komotini and the Regional Directorate of Education of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, successfully held the event "Green Routes to School" on Wednesday 9 April.
The event was hosted in the auditorium of the 2nd EPAL and included two main sections. At 11:00, the Eleni Verani, Urban Planner - Transportation Engineer, presented her study entitled "Green Routes: Transition for High School Students", based on data from questionnaires completed by students and parents. The study highlighted students' travel habits and suggested alternative, sustainable and safe options for accessing school.
Also, the event was honoured by the Director General of Transport and Communications of PAMTH Pantelis Delides. This was followed by an informative speech on the topic of road safety and traffic education, in cooperation with Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
The speakers were:
- Eleftherios Hamalidis, Head of the Directorate of Transport and Communications of Orestiada
- Stavroula Kyrtsidou, Head of the Directorate of Transport and Communications of Evros P.E.
The action was completed with a experiential simulation, where students had the opportunity to wear special glasses that simulate the effects of alcohol consumption on vision and coordination. This experience proved to be particularly engaging for the participants, who showed enthusiasm and actively participated.
The event was another step in strengthening the environmental and traffic awareness of young people, through a modern, interactive and educational framework. We would like to thank all the partner organisations and of course the students for their participation.
