Artemis Tsolaki: "Young people are our future and they are the ones who will ensure the sustainability of our planet"

Visitors from seven different countries of the world were brought to Rhodope for a week by the "Circular Economy and Local Challenges" programme, which ends today.
Eco Active, through the Erasmus+ programme, is currently implementing the Erasmus KA153-You, Mobility of youth workers, entitled "Sustainability through Innovating Traditional Methods", which is funded by the European Union and the Youth and Lifelong Learning Foundation. The aim is for participants to adopt useful practices from the past, which they will apply in the modern era with a view to sustainable development.
As Artemis Tsolaki, project manager, said, "through the actions, the work shop and the seminars we held, we want to give children the opportunity to create ideas that will contribute to the promotion of the local economy in their own city". Thus, participants from Bulgaria, Skopje, Romania, Italy, Turkey, Lithuania and Greece visited Sunlight, where they attended the speech of the recycling manager, who shared with them information about the usefulness of recycling and how their own effort started. Another visit, this time to Alfa-Beta Roto, which also deals with plastic and management issues, attempted to form a global picture for the attendees as to the actions that can be taken in the field of recycling and green development. After these targeted talks and presentations, the children were given the opportunity to formulate their own innovative idea, which will be presented, among other things, to an audience, who will be asked to vote for the best of them.
"Climate change is here and I think we are experiencing it, especially these days"
Regarding the priority that Europe seems to give to environmental and green development issues, the project manager said that "sustainable development and the environment have risen high on the agenda of the European Union. Of course, discussions about how important it is to protect the environment had started much earlier. After all, climate change is here and I think we are experiencing it, especially these days. I think that it is necessary to take action so that we all start to acquire knowledge on this issue and understand the concepts involved. What she stressed in particular is the fact that we must seek actions involving young people, as "they are our future and they are the ones who will ensure the sustainability of our planet".
Rhodope as an attraction for tourists from seven countries of the world
It is worth noting that apart from its educational content, the programme has a tourist character, as it brings visitors who have never been to Rhodope before in the region. Besides, the activity of the project is not limited to Komotini, as the participants are going to cross the city's borders, with actions taking place in other areas such as Fanari, which is a wetland and has a very positive effect on the promotion of our region, but also the forest of Nymphaea, "where in a strange way all those who arrive in Komotini through similar programmes and visit Nymphaea are impressed, unlike the locals who I don't think they have so much love", as Mrs. Tsolaki.
